Megalit

In peninsular Malaysia, megaliths known to locals as Living Stones are found in the Alor Gajah district in Malacca and in the districts of Kuala Pilah, Rembau and Tampin in Negeri Sembilan. There are two distinct types of megaliths in Peninsular Malaysia. The more common of the two are alignments of upright stones about two to six feet tall, which are arranged in pairs in a north- south orientation and laid out in a series of east-west rows. The other type comprises small outcrops at slightly over one foot high and is found in no particular pattern. These megaliths are erected on mounds and in most cases the biggest stone is given a name or title. The megaliths erected here come from an excavated megalithic site in Tampin, Negeri Sembilan. The excavation proved that the megalithic groupings in Malaysia were not the sites of old burial places as once believed by the local people.
