The shape and style of the boat is taken from the original model of the Royal Kelantanese boat named Petala Indera. In the pre-Islamic Malay history, the boat was carved with a bird-shaped head, either as a Garuda or Gagak Sura. The choice of the boat's name is based on the mythological birds that were used as the vehicles of gods which located at highest realm of the heavens. It is also symbolizes a belief that the position and power of the king is at the top of every layer of society. This belief was said to be the legacy of the ancient Malay community kingdoms, especially the Langkasuka-Pattani era.
