This oblong shield is made of a single piece of softwood and engraved with figurative and flora designs. It was used in warfare by the Iban and Dayak tribes of Sarawak as a form of protection. It functions to protect one’s body from being slashed by an enemy during ‘Ngayau’ (the head-hunting) days.
